Asphalt mixing plants are core equipment in highway and municipal asphalt pavement construction, primarily used to heat and mix asphalt, aggregates (crushed stone, sand), mineral powder, and other materials according to specified proportions to produce uniform and stable hot mix asphalt. Their operation and management directly affect pavement quality, construction efficiency, and environmental safety standards.
II. Operation Guidelines
Pre-start Inspection: Before operation, remove any scattered materials or debris near the conveyor belt to ensure smooth operation. Check that all fastening bolts are secure and that all systems (burner, metering, dust collection, temperature control) are functioning properly.
Temperature Control: Precisely control aggregate gradation, asphalt content, and mixing temperature according to the design mix ratio, typically maintaining 150–170°C to avoid overheating aging or insufficient temperature leading to poor coating.
Mixing Time: Each batch mixing time should be controlled at 45–60 seconds to ensure uniform mixture.
Real-time Monitoring: Continuously monitor discharge temperature and quality, with dynamic adjustments supported by extraction tests and Marshall tests.
Transport Management: The mixing site should be as close as possible to the paving site, with smooth transport roads to minimize vibration during transport. For longer transport distances, insulation measures such as covering with tarpaulins should be applied.
III. Construction Considerations
Site Selection: The asphalt plant should be located away from residential areas and farmland to avoid noise and dust pollution.
Foundation Construction: Special attention should be paid to the foundation pouring of the main tower and aggregate dryer drum. The foundation level should not deviate beyond ±2cm to minimize the harm caused by equipment resonance.
Installation Sequence: Install radiating outward from the main tower as the center to ensure installation quality and efficiency.
IV. Maintenance Tips
Daily Maintenance: Perform shift inspections and apply lubricating oil to relevant equipment. Check key components including belts, dust collectors, powder systems, pneumatic control systems, and asphalt thermal oil systems.
Bag house Maintenance: The bag house requires regular maintenance to ensure proper operation, and high-quality filter bags should be used.
Burner System Maintenance: Ensure the bag house/wet scrubber is fully operational before burner ignition, monitor stack opacity during startup and production, and maintain proper air/fuel ratio for clean combustion.
Shutdown Maintenance: Thoroughly clean all mixing components, apply release agent to surfaces prone to buildup, drain water from air lines and tanks, and secure and cover electrical components.
Regular Inspections: Develop year-round maintenance processes and follow maintenance checklists and service intervals to effectively reduce failures and downtime.
